Evangelene Brown, CEO, Owner, Manager
Evangelene "Angel" Brown was a stylist for 14 years before opening Salon Evangelene in 2001. Although she is a very dedicated and passionate hairstylist, Angel is no longer taking clients due to the growing duties and responsibilities of running a large, busy salon. She has entrusted all of her clients to other Team Members of Salon Evangelene, knowing they will be in "good hands". She now spends most of her time in the office, or at the front desk. Angel also loves helping mold and shape future hairstylists by volunteering her time as an Advisory Board member for the Medina County Career Centers Cosmetology program.
In her "spare time", Angel travels as an AQUAGE TeamQuest Educator, teaching new techniques to stylists all over the country! Being an educator keeps her skills at the top level, even though she's not working behind the chair. This is a dream come true for Angel to be a "Rock Star Hairdresser" and educator at this level! |
When Evangelene set out to open her own salon, one of the most important things to her was WHO she would hire. At first it was easy, all of her friends and former co-workers applied. Evangelene had known them for years and had seen their work in action on not only her clients, but her own hair at times! It wasn't until she needed to add staff to her growing business, that she realized the real task at hand. Ask anyone in the H.R. field and they will inform you of how daunting the task of hiring new staff can be.
That's when Evangelene had a revelation...Why not set the standard at a minimum of 3 years experienc? She has nothing against New Graduates of Beauty School, but she knew of how much her own experitise improved in those 3 years. So, in a bold move to set Salon Evangelene apart from the competition, she set the Hiring Standard at a minimum 3 years, but has typically held it 5 years for most. Does it leave her a lot of people to hire? No, it narrows the field dramatically- but that's the point. So many salons are so desperate for new employees that they will hire a new stylist on the spot- without even seeing their work!
So, Evangelene had developed her own hiring system. It starts with the candidate having at 3-5 years minimum SALON experience- beauty school doesn't count- then the interviews begin. 7 to 10 in-depth, lengthy interviews are conducted, if the applicant makes through, then it is on to the technical hair design tests. She only asks that the applicant perform a color & cut, a mens haircut, a childs haircut and a hilite and haircut. 4 models, but of Evanglenes choosing- one of them is usually Evangelene herself! So, you see, Evangelene goes through all of this time consuming, intensive work- for you- the client. No one will ever "practice" on your hair. You will only be serviced by the best- trained, competent professionals, with many years of experience. |
